Privacy

Agenda Sur is a free community events calendar for the Valle del General and the Southern Zone of Costa Rica. We don't sell data, don't show third-party ads, and don't use tracking or analytics tools. This page explains what we keep and why.

If you just visit the site

You don’t need an account to browse or save events.
What you save (☆) and follow is linked to an anonymous cookie in this browser. Your language and theme are kept in your own browser.
If you use “Near me” or agree to see events near you, your location is used only inside your browser to pick your area. It is never sent to or stored on our server.
To stop spam and abuse we keep a scrambled code of your IP address (not the address itself) with what you post or send us.

If you create an account or post an event

Your email is private: it is never shown on the site. We use it to log you in, for notices about your events (for example, “your event is posted”), and for password resets.
A password is optional. If you post without one, we email you a private link to edit that event; it works until you choose a password for your account.
Your password is stored encrypted; no one can read it.
Events you post are public, as are the name, photo and short bio you add to your organizer profile.
Photos you upload are processed to remove hidden data (such as your phone’s GPS location).
You can edit or delete your events anytime from 👤 Your account.

Contact and claim forms

If you write to us or claim an event, we keep your name, email and message so we can reply. We don’t publish them.

If you message the Agenda Sur WhatsApp number, we keep your number and the conversation for 30 days, so we can reply and understand follow-up questions.
If you forward an event, its text and image are used to create the event on the calendar. Your phone number is not published.
We only reply when you message us first. We don’t send promotional messages.

Services we use

Anthropic (Claude): translates events between Spanish and English, reads announcements and flyers to create events, and writes the WhatsApp assistant’s replies. It receives the text or image each task needs.
Meta (WhatsApp Business Platform): delivers WhatsApp messages.
WHC (Canada): hosts the site and email. Cloudflare: domain and site protection.
When you open a map, the map images load from OpenStreetMap (and its code from unpkg.com). The site’s fonts come from Google Fonts. YouTube videos only load if you tap “Watch video”, in YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode.
If you add events to Google Calendar, Outlook or Apple, those services’ policies apply.

Your rights

You can delete your data yourself, anytime: on “Delete my data” (agendasur.com/delete-my-data) with a link we email you, or from 👤 Your account → “Delete my account”. On WhatsApp, send DELETE in the chat.
Deleting your account deletes your email, password, profile, what you saved and your messages. You choose whether your events are deleted or stay up without your name.
Deleted data disappears from our daily backups within 30 days.
To see or correct your data, or for any other question, write to us with the contact form and choose “Privacy / delete my data”.
